Fourteen South African hotels and resorts made it onto the prestigious Conde Nast Traveler 2013 “gold list” of the 510 best places in the world to stay, with eight of these earning “platinum circle” status for making the list for five years running.
Featured in the US magazine’s January 2013 issue, the 19th annual “gold list” was selected by nearly 47 000 participants in the publication’s annual Readers’ Choice survey.
Three Cape Town hotels were among the eight South African properties rewarded for their consistent excellence with platinum status: the Cape Grace, located on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the Table Bay Hotel connected to the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, and the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Camps Bay.
South Africa’s other five platinum properties are all located in or adjacent to the world-famous Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, the country’s “big five” wildlife province.
These are: the MalaMala Game Reserve, Singita Kruger National Park, Londolozi Game Reserve, Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, and Singita Sabi Sand.
Also on the 2013 gold list are:
- Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town
- Steenberg Hotel, Cape Town
- Victoria & Alfred Hotel, Cape Town
- Le Quartier Français, Franschhoek
- Saxon Boutique Hotel, Johannesburg
- Lion Sands resort, Mpumalanga
