Two months after the fatal collapse of a church guesthouse in Lagos, Nigeria, the bodies of 74 of the South African victims returned home to an emotional reception ceremony at Waterkloof Airforce Base in Pretoria on Sunday.
On 21 February 1917, the SS Mendi troopship carrying more than 800 black South African men sank off the Isle of Wight in the British Channel. The bravery of the men as they stared death in the face is portrayed on staged at the Soweto Theatre.
South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation has had an overwhelming response from people whose loved ones are still missing after the building collapse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Nigeria.
