Makhaya Ntini has achieved another milestone, being named one of the South African Cricket Annual's five Cricketers of the Year for a record fifth time.
A look at the latest International Cricket Council test bowling ratings shows South Africa's Makhaya Ntini in second place, behind only Sri Lanka's prolific Muttiah Muralitharan. His elevation comes on the back of a sensational summer.
Makhaya Ntini's 58 wickets in 14 tests, including an SA record 13 for 132 against the West Indies, lifted him to a career-high fourth in the world test bowling rankings - and bagged him the 2005 Mutual and Federal SA Cricketer of the Year award.
If success in test cricket were decided purely on enthusiasm and a never-say-die attitude, Makhaya Ntini might well be the best bowler in the game. As it is, he proved he isn't far off that lofty status with a South African record-setting performance in the second test against the West Indies in Trinidad.
On Wednesday, Makhaya Ntini - rightly regarded one of the most important players in the history of South African cricket - became only the fifth South African to appear in 100 cricket tests.
