More than 32 000 firearms were recovered across South Africa during the latest firearms amnesty, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said following the passing of the deadline for people to hand over their illegal firearms without facing prosecution.

South Africa's illegal firearms amnesty resulted in the recovery of nearly 34 000 firearms earlier this year, with an additional 42 000 legal firearms voluntarily handed over to the police.
