New risk model for blood donors
The government, the SA National Blood Service and an expert committee have agreed on a new risk-rating model for blood donations, following the blood service's admission that was using race and sexual orientation to profile blood donors.
SA hosts World Blood Donor Day
South Africa's national blood service has been recognised for its 100% voluntary donation record, and world-class safety levels, by being chosen to host the launch of a global campaign to increase the number of volunteer donors on the first ever World Blood Donor Day on 14 June.
