In 2030, South Africans will be enriched by universal early childhood education, high-quality schooling, further education and training that allows them to fulfil their potential, and expanding higher education that accelerates the shift to a knowledge economy.
With the aim of one school a week, hundreds of schools are being built or refurbished under the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative. All of these schools have enough classrooms, water, sanitation and electricity, and include libraries, computer and science labs.
Four years ago, the head of Siemens made a commitment to Nelson Mandela – to build a school in the quiet rural village of his birth. That school, a state-of-the-art science and technology secondary institution, has now opened to great fanfare.
