There are plenty of books about Nelson Mandela – written by himself, by people who knew him and by historians and journalists. Taken together, they tell a story of a life that towers above others, yet also reveal the more private experiences of the great man.
Over the years, many movies have been made about Nelson Mandela, the latest being the film adaptation of his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom. That outing starred British actor Idris Elba, who follows in the steps of several actors who have played Madiba, only one of whom was South African – Lindane Nkosi.
A planned sequel to Nelson Mandela's autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, will unpack the years when he was the president of South Africa. Mandela began the book in 1998 but was unable to complete it. Now a group of former senior advisers will finish the task for him.
Top South African open water marathon swimmer Theodore Yach, who holds the record for the most crossings to Robben Island, has published an autobiography that has been nominated for an international award by the World Open Water Swimming Association.
