A vociferously independent young South African filmmaker has received a huge vote of confidence in his endeavours. Not only has Sibs Shongwe-La Mer spoken at TEDx Johannesburg, but one of his low-fi films has been selected for the Final Cut workshop at the 70th Venice International Film Festival.

The town of Worcester in the Western Cape is to become home to a new sculpture of South Africa’s former president Nelson Mandela. The sculpture, the world’s fifth of the anti-apartheid activist, will be unveiled just in time for his 94th birthday on 18 July.
