Brand South Africa’s official website –http://www.southafrica.info/– posted record figures last month, achieving 2.5 million page impressions in March.
Page impressions record the number of pages that were viewed by visitors – translating into hundreds of millions of hits, as each object downloaded on a page is counted as a hit.
And in another record, the number of unique visitors going to the site, which is managed by BigMedia, increased to a record 247 000 in March.
In comparison, figures from the Online Publishers Association (for October-December 2006) show that http://www.southafrica.info/ was more popular than sites such as:
- SundayTimes.co.za (Average of 2.2 million page impressions and 211 000 unique visitors).
- SuperSport.co.za (Average of 1.3 million page impressions and 201 000 unique visitors).
- BusinessDay.co.za (Average of 1.1 million page impressions and 182 000 unique visitors).
Chantal Wellington, the IMC’s e-Communication Manager attributes the popularity of http://www.southafrica.info/ to “its vibe and freshness – at least five new articles are added each day.”
In addition to daily updates, http://www.southafrica.info/ contains comprehensive information for foreign and local tourists and investors as well as South Africans living at home and overseas.
“The site is both a source of practical ‘how to’ information as well as a comprehensive upbeat commentary of how Alive with Possibility South Africa is,” says Wellington.
