Schools in townships and rural South Africa are set to benefit from the 67 Libraries project, an initiative in support and honour of Mandela Day on 18 July, and beyond.
The project is a brainchild of Vision Unlimited, a division of South African company ExecuPlaytime Holdings. In association with Qualibooks, Vision Unlimited supplies practical and sturdy mobile libraries with a capacity to hold either 275 or 500 books. The book selection includes fiction, reference and other material to give young South Africans the essential reading material they need to improve their education.
The initiative is supported by Brand South Africa, the Department of Basic Education and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
“In the spirit of celebrating the life and spirit of Nelson Mandela, all of us should Play our Part and do something impactful and sustainable to benefit those less fortunate than us,” says 67 Libraries founder and project manager, Thabiso Magodielo.
“Through the 67 Libraries project we’re affording progressive and forward-thinking companies, as well as individuals, an opportunity to partner by committing minimum resources to help fulfill Madiba’s wish for education to be accessed by those who are needy, in order to create a better world.”
