A government delegation from the Indonesian province of Bali has arrived in KwaZulu-Natal with plans to cement economic ties between the two provinces.
The KwaZulu-Natal premier S’bu Ndebele told the legislature in Pietermartizburg that the delegation would hold discussions with the provincial government and local business people.
The delegation arrived on Monday and returns home on Sunday.
Their visit forms part of a partnership between the two provinces which was kick-started by Ndebele’s Indonesian trip in July.
A memorandum of understanding was signed then, committing the government of Bali to establishing a furniture-making factory in KwaZulu-Natal.
“The government of Bali has offered to send some of the expert furniture makers to the province to train local crafters in the art of furniture making,” Ndebele said.
He added that the visit would also finalise the establishment of a textile factory, which would create jobs in Pietermaritzburg.
The visit comes a few days after a top Italian furniture making company signed a multi-million rand deal with a local crafter.
