Free State conference venues


The Free State lies in the heart of South Africa, bordering the Kingdom of Lesotho. The region is one of flat, rolling grassland and crop fields, rising to lovely sandstone mountains in the north-east.

In the north-eastern Free State, nestled in the rolling foothills of the Maluti Mountains, is the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, the province’s prime tourist attraction. The park gets its name from the brilliant shades of gold cast by the sun on its spectacular sandstone cliffs.


Bloem Spa Lodge and Conference Centre


The Bloem Spa Lodge and Conference Centre is located about eight kilometers from the city centre.

Up to 230 delegates can be accommodated at the Conference Centre, which offers an overhead projector, flip charts, big screen TV and video machine, computer facilities for PowerPoint presentations, Internet connectivity, white boards, and a data video projector (optional).

Refreshments and meals are served by arrangement, while special rates on accommodation can be arranged for conference-goers.

Brandwag Hotel, Golden Gate Highlands National Park


Located in the north-eastern Free State, in the Maluti Mountains, the Golden Gate Highlands National Park is home to the Brandwag Hotel. It is also home to a wide variety of animals and beautiful sandstone cliffs.

The hotel offers self-catering accommodation as well as the hotel rooms, along with a restaurant, ladies bar, coffee shop, and a curio shop.

There are four conference venues, able to host up to 150 people. The equipment supplied includes a slide projector, flip chart, television, overhead projector, public address system, video recorder, lectern, fax, and photocopy machine.

Halevy Heritage Hotel


Centrally located in Bloemfontein, the four-star Halevy Heritage Hotel was renovated in Victorian and Edwardian style and re-opened in November 2004. It has 21 luxury suites, made up of two honeymoon suites, five double rooms, and 14 twin rooms.

It has conference venues, and the two main rooms, Colony One and Colony Two, can be combined to host up to 150 delegates. The venues are flexible and can be arranged in a number of different ways.

Notepads, pens, iced water, cordials, glasses, peppermints and standard equipment – overhead projector, flipchart, pens for the flipchart, television, screen, and a telephone point – are all supplied.

There are a number of menus to choose from, but menus to suit the needs of delegates can also be arranged.

Ilanga Estate


Located just north of Bloemfontein, Ilanga Estate has four conference venues able to accommodate from 20 to 450 delegates.

The venues are fully equipped and catering is supplied, while bar facilities are also available.

The estate boasts beautiful gardens, including a herb garden which can be used for catered functions. Bloemfontein’s central location makes it an ideal place for a conference.

Khaya iBhubesi


Located in Parys, Khaya iBhubesi offers a number of accommodation options, including the Mufasa Guesthouse, Shaka Village, Simba Chalets, Phumba Riverside Lodge, Rafiki Riverside Lodges, and Nyala Log Cabins (spot the Lion King references).

Lying on the banks of the Vaal River, just one hour’s drive from Johannersburg, Khaya iBhubesi offers a tranquil setting for conferences and relaxation.

There are five conference venues capable of hosting up to 500 people. They come with a VCR recorder, white boards, overhead projector, collar microphone, flip charts, handheld microphone and laser point, while video/data projectors are available on request.

In addition, apart from the conference facilities there is also an on-site Internet cafe.

Kopano Nokeng Country Lodge


The Kopano Nokeng Country Lodge is situated only four kilometres from the Bloemfontein Airport on the Maselspoort Road. It offers 15 four-star luxury en-suite rooms, all individually decorated.

The Lodge boasts five state of the art conference venues, able to accommodate up 540 people. There is air-conditioning in all five venues, while three of them have under-floor heating. A number of menus are available or tailor-made menus can be arranged.

Standard equipment includes notepads, pens, water, glasses, peppermints, flipcharts with paper, screens, overhead projectors, televisions, video machines and podiums. Audiovisual equipment and assistance can also be arranged.

Maluti Mountain Lodge


Located near the centre of South Africa and overlooking Clarens from the beautiful Maluti Mountains is the Maluti Mountain Lodge in the Eastern Free State.

The lodge has two conference venues, able to host 200 day-delegates and up to 50 overnight delegates.

All equipment is provided, as well as breakaway rooms, while delegates are given exclusive use of the bar facilities in the Duck and Hound Restaurant. Meals are served in both the Duck and Hound and the Highland Grill restaurants.

The swimming pool and lapa offer a peaceful setting for some relaxation.

President Hotel Bloemfontein


The city of Bloemfontein, located in the centre of South Africa, is an ideal venue for a conference and the President Hotel offers excellent facilities for a successful conference.

The hotel has 145 rooms and sleeps 445 people. It has seven fully equipped conference rooms, some of which can be combined, allowing for groups of up to 420 people, depending upon the configuration required.

The pool and braai deck can also be used for conferences, allowing for something that is a little different. Nestled below Naval Hill, The President also offers ample parking.

Protea Hotel Black Mountain


Less than an hour’s drive from Bloemfontein, near Thaba Nchu, is the Protea Hotel Black Mountain, located inside the Maria Moroko Nature Reserve.

The 118-room hotel is a wonderful getaway venue in what is known as “Big Sky Country”. It is loaded with leisure facilities, including a fully-equipped gymnasium, with sauna and Jacuzzi, a solarium, sundowner cruises, and an entertainment centre for children.

It also boasts eight conference venues, able to host from 27 to 600 guests in a variety of seating arrangements. They come equipped with white board, air-conditioning, slide projector, flip chart, television, overhead projector, public address system, VCR, fixed screen, portable screen, and podium.

In addition to the standard equipment on offer, secretarial facilities can be arranged on request.

Protea Hotel Landmark Lodge – Bloemfontein


The Protea Hotel Landmark Lodge – Bloemfontein is located in the city centre, but only a 10-minute drive from the Bloemfontein Airport.

It has 115 air-conditioned en-suite rooms, while wining and dining is available at The Courtroom Restaurant or Judges Bar.

Up to 420 people can be accommodated for conferences, with five different venues available.

Various menus are offered and standard equipment is supplied, including white boards, air-conditioning, slide projectors, flipcharts, televisions, overhead projectors, PA systems, video recorders, microphones, portable screens, lecterns, fax facilities, personal computers, and photocopying.

Somerton Estate


Built in Victorian Colonial style, the pictureque Somerton Estate lies only two kilometres from Bloemfontein. Its facilites include the Lavendar Lady Giftshop, a teagarden, and the Manor House, which is ideal for weddings and corporate functions, as well as dining, themed evenings and Sunday buffet lunches.

Somerton is a nice option for a smaller-sized conference, with an experienced co-ordination and events management team on hand to ensure that conferences and corporate events run smoothly.

The conference venue boasts air-conditioning; an open fireplace (for the cold Free State winter); white screen; flipcharts and pens; projector; DVD; VCR; surround sound system; table stationery; table refreshments, including mineral water and wrapped bons bons; breakaway rooms; data projector or any other equipment by prior arrangement; and secure parking.
