“This World Cup is the real thing. You must feel that there is something happening in this country. The banners you use must be larger than life. Every street corner must be filled. We must feel that this show is in town.” Dr. Irvin Khoza, Chairperson 2010 FIFA Organising Committee
The 2010 National Communication Partnership (NCP) featured insightful dialogue, rigorous debate and resounding agreement that the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ is South Africa’s next defining moment. We would like to thank you for your participation in this, the fourth communicators’ conference, held on 17th August 2009.
As communicators, we support the sentiment that was expressed by Minister Sibusiso Ndebele, in stating, “As a country and continent, we need to pull together. The 2010 FIFA World Cup calls for unity of our people because together we can do more.” Indeed, together we can turn 1.5 million arrivals into 1.5 million advocates of the South African brand and drive greater understanding of Africa’s vibrancy, trade and investment potential.
We would also like to express our gratitude to you, for your continued commitment to the National Communications Partnership. It is through your commitment, energy and channels to stakeholders that we can: define and demonstrate our South Africanness ; manage those critical moments of truth that will turn visitors into advocates, and, empower and inspire all South Africans to deliver the first “full colour” World Cup that will help provide the springboard to our Nation’s future growth.
To maintain the momentum that was generated on the 17th August It is our commitment to deliver timeous and accessible communication to you, our country’s communicators. In this regard, please keep in contact with us on the 2010 NCP blog or via Twitter. We welcome your continued dialogue and ideas. Please also upload the CD that was provided in your conference packs, which will ensure that you receive our updates and correspondence.
Furthermore, in line with the core objectives of the 2009 Conference (to generate an integrated communication plan informed by reliable information from key stakeholders ,and to provide conference attendees with information that will enable them to communicate appropriate facts to their respective stakeholders), we will be disseminating a comprehensive conference report by the end of August 2009, for your use.
