The International Marketing Council of South Africa is a schedule 3A public entity, registered as a Trust. Its executive authority is the Minister in the Presidency, who it reports to through the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).

As a government funded agency, the IMC is regulated by the Public Finance Management Act (1999 as amended) and the National Treasury Regulations (2005 as amended).

The Accounting Authority or Board is appointed by the President of the Republic of South Africa. The Board meets four times a year.

The Executive Committee (Exco) of the IMC comprises the Board Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson, the Chief Executive of GCIS, the IMC management committee (as invited guests) and any additional number of Board trustees as agreed among themselves. The Exco meets at least four times a year, before the Board meetings.

The Audit Committee is a sub-committee of the Board that reviews the effectiveness of the internal control systems. At least three members of this committee have to be from the board of trustees. The audit committee meets at least four times a year, before the Exco meetings.

The Remuneration Committee is a sub-committee of the Board, represented by Exco to look at all issues that relate to remuneration and annual performance bonuses of the employees.

The International Marketing Council (IMC), custodian of Brand South Africa, is embarking on a journey with South Africans to begin to collectively create a South Africa that we all want. The first phase of this journey will deal with engaging the nation to get feedback on what South Africans want. It commences on the 12th June through all the major media platforms. The "South Africa you want to live in" campaign will be asking all South Africans to describe the country they want to live in.
